About the Zodiac Archive
The Zodiac Archive is an independent digital repository of declassified law enforcement documents, investigative case files, and agency records related to the Zodiac Killer — one of the most notorious unsolved serial murder cases in American history. The Zodiac operated in Northern California between 1968 and 1969, killing at least five confirmed victims and taunting investigators through cryptographic letters sent to Bay Area newspapers.
The archive is built and maintained by Christopher Smoot, a software developer who specializes in building modular, automated data ingestion pipelines. Documents are processed through automated OCR transcription and full-text indexing, making decades-old investigative records searchable for the first time.
